CORVALLIS, Ore. – Rutgers baseball dropped Tuesday night's midweek contest to No. 8 Oregon State by a score of 7-3 at Goss Stadium.
The Scarlet Knights were unable to overcome an early 4-0 deficit to the Beavers (16-3), who extended their winning streak to 10 in a row with the victory.
Jack Kirchner served the role as opener on the mound, tossing an efficient 1-2-3 first inning with a strikeout. Jordan Falco came in for the second and threw a scoreless frame before OSU jumped ahead with four in the third.
A two-run double provided the opening scoring in the contest, followed by a single and bases-loaded walk to give Oregon State the early 4-0 advantage. A two-run double in the fourth made it 6-0 for the Beavers.
Matthew Cruz helped settle things down on the mound, pitching two perfect innings with a pair of strikeouts. Charles Batista made his collegiate debut in the seventh, striking out a pair in a 1-2-3 frame.
The Scarlet Knights put together a rally to cut the lead in half in the eighth. After loading the bases, a balk brought home their first run of the game. Jack Sweeney then drove a single up the middle to score two more and bring the score to 6-3 before a double play ended the threat.
The Beavers tacked on an insurance run in the eighth to make it 7-3 before a scoreless ninth closed out the game.
