Baseball Loses to Fordham

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers baseball lost to Fordham on Wednesday by a score of 8-7 at Bainton Field.
The Rams (6-9) used three runs in the top of the seventh to jump ahead of the Scarlet Knights (9-7) and earn the victory.
RU battled back from multiple three-run deficits take a 7-5 lead but did not have a second comeback in them in the later innings.
Fordham strung together three hits in the first to take a 3-0 lead. In the bottom half, an RBI groundout and RBI double from Charlie Meglio got it back within a run at 3-2.
The Rams built up a lead on RBI singles in the third and fourth innings to get back ahead 5-2. The Scarlet Knights put together a four-run rally in the fourth with no hits, scoring on a bases-loaded hit-by-pitch, passed ball, fielder's choice and sac fly. Gabriel Rivera collected his first career RBI in the fifth on a sac fly.
In the top of the seventh, Fordham scored with a bases-loaded walk, sac fly and RBI single to take an 8-7 advantage.
The RU bats were held without a hit in the final three innings and could not complete the comeback.
Rutgers now shifts its focus to Big Ten play, with the conference opener against Michigan State set for 4 p.m. Friday at Bainton Field.
