Justin Lawler Earns Liam Gleason Humanitarian Award

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers men's lacrosse midfielder Justin Lawler was named the team's winner of the inaugural Liam Gleason Humanitarian Award, it was announced today by the IMLCA. The award was created this year to honor former Siena head coach Liam Gleason, who passed away this past offseason. The award is given to one student-athlete at each Division I men's lacrosse program who exemplifies leadership, unwavering support for teammates & staff, outstanding sportsmanship, and meaningful community involvement.
"Justin is a coach's dream as a great mentor of his peers and a servant leader to our program," head coach Brian Brecht said. "A true student-athletes he will graduate and go on to be a second lieutenant in the US Army. Justin has been a consistent leader throughout his whole career both on and off the field, understanding when to be up in front and when to lead from the shadows to support his teammates individually and our program as a whole."
Lawler recently completed a five-year career 'On the Banks'. The Randolph, N.J. native played in 31 games, starting eight of them. Over that time, he scored 15 goals and added five assists for 20 career points, with 22 ground balls and six turnovers. After playing in just four games across his first three seasons as a Scarlet Knight, he continued to work hard and improve to become a fixture as a key midfielder for RU across the past two seasons, earning starts each year and playing in 27 games over the past two seasons.
Lawler is earning his Master's Degree in Political Science after an undergraduate major in Political Justice. A strong student, he is a three-time winner of the team's Campbell Sode Student-Athlete Award for the team member with the highest GPA. He is a three-time Academic All-Big Ten and three-time Big Ten Distinguished Scholar selection.
