LOS ANGELES – Rutgers baseball dropped Sunday's series finale to No. 17 USC by a score of 12-2 at Dedeaux Field.
The Scarlet Knights (22-26, 9-15) went down early to the Trojans (37-12, 19-8) and ultimately fell by run-rule fashion in eight innings.
A two-run homer and a pair of RBI singles gave USC an early 4-0 advantage. The Trojans continued to add on with a sac fly in the second, double in the fifth and solo homer in the sixth, making it 7-0.
Chase Krewson and Gabriel Rivera both singled in the seventh and came around to score on a throwing error to bring it to 7-2.
USC would answer back with two in the seventh and three in the eighth to walk it off and finish off the series sweep with a 12-2 win.
Rutgers returns home to host Rider on Wednesday before a three-game series against Maryland over the weekend at Bainton Field.
