Imahri Wooten arrives at Rutgers as the program’s lone signee in its 2026 recruiting class, bringing a polished scoring touch and defensive motor after a standout senior season. A three-star prospect rated as high as the No. 9 player in New York and the No. 58 small forward nationally by 247Sports, Wooten chose Rutgers from a crowded recruitment that included offers from Auburn, Arizona State, Georgia Tech, Missouri, St. John’s, Syracuse, Seton Hall, Virginia Tech, UMass, and Mississippi State, among others.
A native of Troy, N.Y., Wooten played his senior season at Redemption Christian Academy after stops at Compass Prep (Arizona) and Putnam Science Academy (Connecticut), and also competed for the City Rocks AAU program on the Nike EYBL circuit. As a senior, he averaged 29.6 points, 5.5 assists, and 4.2 rebounds per game, scoring more than 40 points twice and reaching the 30-point mark eight times. His play earned him a nomination for the 2026 McDonald’s All-American Game and All-Circuit Underclass Team honors at EYBL Session IV. Wooten committed to Rutgers in September 2025 and signed his National Letter of Intent that November, citing the program’s family environment and defensive identity under head coach Steve Pikiell as deciding factors. “I’m officially joining the family environment of Rutgers Basketball, a program built on toughness,” Wooten said. “I am ready to work and dedicated to competing for Rutgers.” He is expected to bring shooting, length, and perimeter scoring to the Scarlet Knights’ backcourt as a true freshman in 2026-27.
