Mervedi Miteo arrives at Rutgers as one of the top international additions of the offseason, bringing size, rim protection and rare international pedigree for his age to the Scarlet Knights. A product of Real Madrid's academy system before moving on to Gran Canaria's youth and reserve pipeline in Spain, Miteo has already made history at the senior national team level and turned heads against grown men in Spanish competition. A native of the Democratic Republic of Congo, Miteo became the youngest player ever to appear for the DR Congo National Team. He carried that distinction into the summer of 2025, when he represented DR Congo at FIBA AfroBasket — the continent's premier senior national team tournament — as the youngest player in the entire field and a consistent contributor throughout. He joins fellow international additions Martin Tonejc and Diego Garavaglia as part of a frontcourt Coach Pikiell has retooled with size and experience this offseason.
