SCOUTING RUTGERS
The Scarlet Knights are on the middle leg of their spring break trip, which started with a series at then-No. 16 Florida Atlantic over the weekend. All three games were decided by one run, making it the first time since 1991 versus Temple that RU played the same opponent in three consecutive one-run games. Senior Howie Brey (Middletown, N.J.) pitched well enough to win with seven strikeouts over six innings in the opener, while junior Tom Marcinczyk (Middlesex, N.J.) clubbed a three-run home run at the plate. However, the Owls rallied for four in the ninth to deny the Scarlet Knights, 9-8. Showing resiliency, Rutgers bounced back in the middle game with a 5-4 victory. Redshirt junior Kyle Driscoll (Toms River, N.J.), freshman Dante Scafidi (Washington Township, N.J.), freshman Kevin Romero (Garfield, N.J.) and redshirt junior Max Herrmann (Rutherford, N.J.) all combined for effective outings on the hill, with the offense putting up three in the seventh to pull away. The rubber game was also closely-contested, but FAU broke a 2-2 tie with one in the eighth to claim victory. Sophomore John O'Reilly (Northvale, N.J.) permitted just one earned run over six innings.

For the series, senior R.J. Devish (Beachwood, N.J.) reached base at a clip of .643 with four hits, three walks and two hit by pitches to raise his season on-base percentage to .600, which leads the Big Ten and ranks third in the nation through four weeks of action. The catcher also leads the conference in times being hit by pitch (6), tied for first in walks (13), tied for second in runs scored (15), fifth in stolen bases (6) and tied for fifth in batting average (.415). Fifth-year senior Chris Suseck (Flemington, N.J.) is also among the Big Ten statistical leaders with a .377 batting average and a .459 on-base percentage, which ranks 15th and tied for 14th in the league, respectively. He led the lineup with a .429 average in four games last week. In addition, Marcinczyk is atop the conference leaderboard with 15 RBIs this season.

On the base paths, freshman Jawuan Harris (Pembroke Pines, Fla.), who is also tied for eighth with 12 runs scored, paces the Big Ten (14th nationally) with 10 stolen bases so far in 11 attempts. His total has helped Rutgers steal 28 bags on the season to lead the conference sit No. 24 nationally. Devish (6), freshman Mike Martinez (West New York, N.J.) (4) and Marcinczyk (3) also have a top-15 ranking among league teams.

Freshman Serafino Brito (Oakland, N.J.) is slated to make his second career start on Tuesday versus the Eagles. In his first start against Lafayette, the right-hander earned the win two earned runs permitted over six-plus innings. He leads the staff with seven overall appearances in 2016, holding a strikeout-to-walk ratio of 8.00 (16 strikeouts, two walks) over 15.1 innings. Overall, the staff has worked to a 4.36 ERA on the year, striking out 98 and walking 58.

NOTABLE
Rutgers has played to a 6-5 record since dropping three to start the season at No. 4 Miami ... the four opponents RU has played on the weekend so far have combined for a 40-21 record ... the Scarlet Knights are 2-0 in midweek games, having beat Lafayette and Iona at home ... Suseck leads the team with seven multiple-hit games, having reached base safely in each of the last 11 games ... Devish has an on-base streak of 13 and a hitting streak of nine ... RU is averaging two stolen bases per game, including four games with at least four swipes ... the catchers have combined for just one passed ball ... Rutgers has played in the state of Florida in 34-straight seasons ... the seventh inning has been the most productive with 21 runs across ... six different Scarlet Knights have hit one home run.

SCOUTING FLORIDA GULF COAST
A member of the Atlantic Sun Conference, the Eagles took three games in a four-game home series versus Quinnipiac over the weekend. Rutgers represents the third Big Ten opponent this season, as FGCU went 1-2 versus Illinois and dropped a midweek game against Michigan State. At the plate, Jake Noll took home Atlantic Sun Player of the Week after going 11-for-24 from the plate (.458) with nine runs scored, three home runs and 15 RBIs in five games last week. Right-hander Ryan Lang will start on Tuesday on the mound. Against Michigan State, he allowed seven runs over 7.1 innings. Overall, the team is hitting .281 and pitching to a 4.96 ERA.

Head coach Dave Tollett, who is the only leader in program history, is in his 14th season at the helm. The team went 30-26-1 last season and made it to the conference championship game. Click here for the FGCU midweek preview.
