ABOUT LAFAYETTE
Lafayette has opened the season at 2-4, with wins over VMI and Drexel, while taking losses to the Big Ten's Penn State, Binghamton (OT), and mutual opponents with Rutgers Army and Loyola. The Leopards are led offensively by Peter Lehman (14 goals, 9 assists), John Mathes (13 goals) and Kalman Kraham (12 goals). The team has used Gabe Cummins and Ryan Ness for three starts apiece in goal. Aidan Kelly (55%) and James Turco (48%) have primarily taken the faceoffs.
Lafayette assistant coach Scott Bieda played collegiately at Rutgers, where he was an All-American, two-time First Team All-Big Ten selection and Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year in 2016.
ALL-TIME SERIES
Rutgers has played Lafayette 15 times dating back to 1926, and has won all 15 contests. The teams have only met twice since 1993, in 2012 (9-6 RU victory) and 2019 (14-8 win). In the 2019 season opener, Connor Harryman won 22-of-25 faceoffs, and Adam Charalambides and Kieran Mullins combined for seven goals. Eight players on the current roster (Jack Stahanczyk, David Sprock, Cole Daninger, Michael Sanguinetti, Joe Peterson, Brennan Kamish, Jaryd Jean-Felix and Bobby Russo) made their career debut in that game, while Sprock and Sanguinetti scored the first goal of their careers.
GALLAGHER APPROACHES 100
Rutgers captain Ryan Gallagher is approaching an upcoming milestone. The Atlanta native enters Tuesday's game with 99 career points, just one point away from 100 for his career.
RIP COACH HAYES
The Rutgers men's lacrosse program is mourning the loss of former head coach Tom Hayes, a lacrosse icon who coached the Scarlet Knights from 1975 to 2000 and led the team to 21 winning seasons and to final top-20 rankings for 24-straight years. He also had a large impact on the growth of lacrosse at the international level. Rutgers will wear a memorial nameplate with his name on the back of his jersey all season long.
