Rutgers men's lacrosse has opened the season 5-0 ascending to No. 4 in the national polls, the program's highest ranking since 2017. This weekend, RU travels to face Stony Brook, the second straight road game as part of a four-of-five game road stretch.
The Scarlet Knights have been strong on both ends of the field. Rutgers is seventh in the nation in scoring defense (8.8), eighth in scoring margin (6.6) and 12
th in scoring offense (15.4), having outscored opponents 77-44 on the year.
Returning All-American goalkeeper
Colin Kirst is seventh in the nation in both goals-against-average (8.52) and save percentage (.602).
Ethan Rall has buoyed the defense with a Big Ten best 2.2 caused turnovers per game.
On the offensive end, RU has five goal scorers averaging multiple goals per game. Ross holds the team lead with 15 goals having posted nine goals over the past two games.

Last weekend, RU claimed its second straight ranked win, knocking of No. 19 Loyola, 13-12. RU battled back, erasing a 11-8 third quarter deficit with a 5-1 run down the stretch.
Ross Scott (four goals) and
Shane Knobloch (three tallies) boosted the RU offense. RU is now 4-1 in their last five matchups against ranked teams and 7-3 versus ranked teams in the past two seasons.
Stony Brook, receiving votes in the national polls, is off to a 4-0 start after claiming the Long Island Cup last weekend with a pair of wins over mutual opponents with the Scarlet Knights, St. John's and LIU. The team is led offensively by Dylan Pallonetti (nine goals, 10 assists), while Matt Anderson leads with 11 goals. Anthony Palma is 4-0 in goal with a 10.5 GAA and 52.8 save percentage. Renz Conlon is 58-of-93 (62.3%) on faceoffs, ninth nationally. The Seawolves are ninth in the country in ground balls (36.75 per game) and 14
th in the nation in scoring offense (14.5).
Rutgers and Stony Brook have played 13 times, with Stony Brook leading 7-6 entering this matchup. SBU won the last meeting, claiming a 14-13 win in 2020 in Piscataway. Among returners,
Tommy Coyne had a hat trick and
Ross Scott and
Brennan Kamish each had two goals in that game. The prior meeting to that had come in 2017, a 17-4 win for RU over No. 14 Stony Brook. The last meeting at Stony Brook was in 2016.
