No. 24 Baseball Visits Ohio State for Three-Game Series

Scarlet Knights look to hold strong atop Big Ten standings
COLUMBUS, Ohio (April 28, 2022) – The No. 24 Rutgers baseball team hits the road for the first time in 18 days to take on Ohio State for a three-game series in Columbus.
Rutgers currently ranks first among Big Ten teams in batting average (.318), doubles (101), doubles/game (2.40), ERA (3.22), fielding percentage (.979), hits (494), OBP (.416), runs (392), runs/game (9.3), shutouts (4) and OPS (.938). RU's marks of batting average (7th), doubles (4th), doubles/game (10th), ERA (5th), hits (3rd), hits allowed/9 innings (7.32, 9th), runs (5th), runs/game (7th) and W/L percentage (.786, 8th) are all top 10 in the nation.
LAST TIME OUT
• Rutgers defeated Hofstra 18-1 on Tuesday afternoon at Bainton Field, led by a 4-for-5 day from Ryan Lasko, 5.0 quality innings from Wyatt Parliament on the mound and another nine innings of errorless defense.
• Last weekend, the Scarlet Knights dropped their first Big Ten series of the season, losing 2-of-3 to Iowa at Bainton Field.
• RU struggled to hit on Friday and Saturday, losing those games by scores of 4-1 and 12-2. The team rebounded for a 10-4 win on Sunday thanks to a balanced offensive attack and 4.0 strong innings from Sam Bello in relief.
• Bello (4-0) picked up the win over the Sunday, while Parliament improved to 5-0 with the win on Tuesday.
HITTING
• The Scarlet Knights continue to be an offensive machine under hitting coach Kyle Pettoruto.
• Rutgers' team batting average of .322 is 23 points higher than the next-best Big Ten team (Maryland .295).
• Seven different qualified (2 PA/G) Scarlet Knights are batting over .300. Nine different players have at least 25 RBI on the season
• Nick Cimillo leads the Big Ten with a .506 OBP and is the only player in the conference with an OBP over .500. He was recently named Second Team Midseason All-America by Perfect Game
• Danny DiGeorgio (60) and Ryan Lasko (59) are first and second in the Big Ten in hits.
• Chris Brito (52) and Tony Santa Maria (50) are first and second in the Big Ten in RBI.
• Lasko (49, t-2nd), DiGeorgio (49, t-2nd), Cimillo (46, 4th) and Santa Maria (43, t-6th) dominate the conference leaderboard in runs scored.
• Cimillo (C, 16th), DiGeorgio (SS, 27th) and Santa Maria (3B, 29th) were all ranked in the top 30 at their respective positions by D1 Baseball in its midseason position rankings.
PITCHING
• Under pitching coach Brendan Monaghan, Rutgers has made its mark as one of the top pitching teams in the country.
• RU is first in the Big Ten with a 3.22 ERA, with the next-best team in Iowa at 3.49
• Friday starter Jared Kollar has emerged as one of the top pitchers in the league. He is among the best in the Big Ten with a 4.20 K/BB ratio, 0.96 WHIP and six victories.
• The team has 16 games with at least 10 strikeouts this season with a high of 16 against Omaha on March
20.
• Dale Stanavich, a member of the NCBWA Stopper of the Year watch list, is second in the Big Ten with eight saves and has 35 strikeouts to just four walks in 20.1 IP.
