Lasko named Second Team, Cimillo and DiGeorgio named Third Team
PISCATAWAY, N.J. (June 17, 2022) – A record number of Rutgers baseball players received All-America honors this week, as it marked the first time in program history that three players were named traditional (non-freshman) All-Americans in the same season.
Ryan Lasko (ABCA/Rawlings Second Team), Nick Cimillo (NCBWA, ABCA/Rawlings Third Team) and Danny DiGeorgio (ABCA/Rawlings Third Team) were honored for their respective seasons with All-America accolades.
Ryan Lasko was named to the ABCA/Rawlings All-America Second Team on Friday, the highest All-America honor for a Scarlet Knight since Todd Frazier was named first team in 2007. He adds that to his list of accolades that include All-Big Ten First Team, All-Region First Team, Golden Spikes Award Semifinalist and invitee to USA Baseball Collegiate National Team Training Camp.
Lasko just wrapped up one of the best individual seasons in Rutgers baseball history. He led the Big Ten with 90 hits and 81 runs, while also tying for the Rutgers lead with 16 home runs. His 12 home runs in Big Ten games were two shy of the all-time Big Ten record for home runs in a conference season. He batted .349 with a 1.074 OPS and stole 13-of-14 bases. He was also named Freshman All-America in 2021.
Nick Cimillo was named All-America Third Team by both NCBWA (media) and ABCA/Rawlings (coaches). His All-America selection is one of many postseason accolades for Cimillo that include NCBWA District Player of the Year and All-Big Ten Second Team.
Cimillo was the top hitter in the Big Ten this season, as he led the conference with a .385 batting average, .707 slugging percentage and 1.199 OPS. He also tied for the Rutgers team lead with 16 home runs on the season.
Danny DiGeorgio's historic graduate season culminates in All-America Third Team honors from ABCA/Rawlings. He was one of three Scarlet Knights to be named All-Big Ten First Team and is one of six finalists for the Brooks Wallace Award, given annually to the top shortstop in the country.
DiGeorgio was the everyday starter at shortstop and set career highs in nearly all major categories with a .368 batting average, seven home runs, 59 RBI and a 1.032 OPS. He was also a standout defensively for a team that led the Big Ten in fielding percentage the entire season.
