Baseball Visits St. Joe's Tuesday Afternoon

MERION STATION, Pa. – Rutgers baseball is set for its first midweek contest of the season, with the Scarlet Knights (5-1) heading to Pennsylvania to take on Saint Joseph's (2-2) at 1 p.m. on Tuesday.
True freshman Justin Sweeney will make the start for RU in his first career action. The Hawks will counter with RHP Colin Yablonski.

The Scarlet Knights are coming off a road series win at Old Dominion and own back-to-back road series wins to start the season. Trevor Cohen led the team with a .571 average over the weekend and true freshman Jackson Natili broke out to hit .400 (6-for-15) in the series with four RBIs and three multi-hit games. Christian Coppola and Sonny Fauci earned victories on the mound, while Jake Marshall (Friday) and Joey DeChiaro (Saturday) each collected their second saves of the season.
As a team, RU is hitting .301 with seven starters batting .300 or better, led by Cohen's .407 average. The Scarlet Knights lead the Big Ten and rank sixth nationally with 21 hit-by-pitches, while also leading the conference with 2.67 stolen bases per game.
On the mound, Rutgers has a 4.25 staff ERA and leads the Big Ten with 6.55 hits allowed per nine innings, a 3.22 strikeout-to-walk ratio and a 1.05 WHIP.
Following Tuesday's contest, RU is back on the road for the third straight weekend, with the team heading down to South Carolina for a three-game series at Charleston Southern. Game one of the series is set for 5 p.m. on Friday evening.
