No. 14/16 Men’s Lacrosse Hosts Hofstra Saturday

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers men's lacrosse is back in this action as the Scarlet Knights are set to host Hofstra to conclude a three-game homestand at SHI Stadium. RU will play as part of a double-header with the women's team, who play at noon. The game will be streamed on B1G+ with Dom Savino and Rick Mercurio on the call.
The game is Youth Lacrosse Day. Young fans that wear a jersey can get in for free. There will be giveaways, with fans who attend the women's game offered discounted tickets for the men's game.
Rutgers has started the season with a 4-1 record and is on a three-game winning streak. RU's lone loss came to No. 12 Army, while the team beat LIU, Stony Brook, Villanova and Jacksonville. Rutgers last started 5-1 in the 2024 season.
Last time out, RU raced out to a 6-0 lead over LIU en route to a 17-5 victory. The Scarlet Knights had three players with multi-goal games, led by Greyson Vorgang. The attackman had three goals and a career-high two assists for a career-high five points. Kasey Mongillo, Joe Juengerkes and Colin Kelly all had two goals. Juengerkes tied his career-high with two scores.
Vorgang now shares the team lead with Colin Kurdyla at 12 goals on the season. Kurdyla has 19 points while Vorgang has 17.
Cardin Stoller is first in the Big Ten in saves per game, second in save percentage and third in goals-against-average. He was named Big Ten Specialist of the Week and to the USILA Team of the Week, his third national recognition from the organization across his career.
Connor Udovich leads RU with 1.6 caused turnovers per game, fourth in the league. He has eight caused turnovers to pace the team, while fellow defenseman Dylan Groff has seven.
John Scarelli stands at 49.5% on faceoffs, having taken 93. RU is at 50.9 percent as a team.
Hofstra is off to a 1-3 start in the 20th season for Seth Tierney at the helm. The Pride went to four NCAA Tournaments in his first five years at the helm, but haven't returned since 2011, and are 48-60 since the team's last nine+ win season (11-3 in 2017).
Trevor Natalie, Shea Kennedy and Austin Clarke were named Preseason All-CAA. Natalie was an All-CAA First Team pick last year after scoring 28 goals and was aa Preseason All-American. Clarke had 24 ground balls and 13 caused turnovers.
Goalkeeper Shea Kennedy has 12.75 saves per game (12th nationally) and a save percentage of 56.7 this season. Natalie leads the team with 10 goals and 14 assists. Three players have taken between 23 and 38 faceoffs, with the team at 37.6% at the X.
Rutgers is 18-15 all-time against Hofstra. RU has won three straight (2019, 2022, 2024) in the only meetings since 1999. Hofstra won four straight from 1996-1999, with RU winning three straight before that (RU is 6-4 since 1993). RU is 12-6 in home games.
Rutgers won 13-8 in the last meeting between these two teams, with Colin Kurdyla leading the team with three goals and Cardin Stoller making 11 saves. RU won 22-10 in 2022 in a trip to Hempstead, and 10-7 in 2019 at home. Over the last three games, RU has outscored the Pride 45-25.
After three straight games at home, RU is back on the road for the next two with a pair of local games. RU is at No. 7/10 Princeton on Saturday, March 7, then travel to St. John's on Tuesday, March 10.
