PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers baseball beat Wagner by a score of 8-5 on Tuesday afternoon at Bainton Field.

The Scarlet Knights (9-6) were led by strong pitching from Jacob Pedersen and Andrew Rondini to defeat the Seahawks (2-11) for the 11^th straight time.

While Wagner scored three in the second to take an early lead, RU scored seven unanswered to take control of the contest.

In the bottom of the second, Ryan Jaros singled in a run and Matt Chatelle doubled in another to make it 3-2. A pair of bases-loaded walks from Yomar Carreras in the fourth and Ryan Jaros in the fifth gave RU a lead.

Chatelle brought home two more in the fifth on a single and Joey Erace made it 7-3 with an RBI single of his own.

While the Seahawks got back a pair in the sixth, Trey Wells scored from second on a wild pitch in the eighth to give Rutgers breathing room.

With the Scarlet Knights down 3-0 in the second, Pedersen came in from the bullpen to settle things down. After getting out of a jam, he went on to throw 3.1 scoreless innings with five strikeouts and just one hit allowed. Pedersen earned the win to improve to 1-0.

After Wagner added two in the sixth, Andrew Rondini got the call to strand runners on base. Rondini finished the sixth and went on to finish the game and earn the save, going 3.1 scoreless innings, allowing one hit with one strikeout. Rondini now owns back-to-back outings of three-plus innings with no runs including last week's effort against Stony Brook.

Offensively, Wells scored three runs, Chatelle went 2-for-4 with three RBIs and Erace was 2-for-4 with an RBI.

Rutgers is back in action with another home midweek, taking on Fordham at 1 p.m. tomorrow.
