Baseball Wins Series Over Michigan State

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers baseball won Sunday's game over Michigan State by a score of 8-6 to clinch the series.
The Scarlet Knights (11-8, 2-1) took a 2-1 lead in the fourth and never looked back against the Spartans (5-13, 1-5), winning the opening series of Big Ten play for the first time since 2022.
Ryan Jaros drove in three runs in the game, getting things started with a sac fly in the fourth and driving in two more on a bases-loaded single in the fifth.
A double from Quinten Perilli gave RU a lead it would not relinquish in the fourth.
Chris Sand was able to work around a solo homer in the second, making the start on the mound and battling through 3.1 innings with just one run allowed on four hits. Joe Mazza relieved him, pitching 2.2 innings and giving up one run on two hits with two strikeouts.
Andrew Rondini pitched the seventh and eighth innings, striking out one with an unearned run crossing in the seventh.
MSU battled back in the ninth, scoring three runs on a pair of doubles to make it a two-run game. Jason Masick was able to come in and get the last out to earn the save.
With the Scarlet Knights holding a 4-2 lead in the sixth, Trey Wells singled in a run to make it 5-2. With the bases loaded, Chase Krewson beat out an infield to score one run and after he beat the throw to first, Wells caught the Spartan defense napping and scored to make it 7-2.
Three RU players collected multiple hits, including a 3-for-5 day from Yomar Carreras, his seventh multi-hit game of the season. Krewson (2) and Jaros (3) both collected multiple RBIs in the contest as well.
Rutgers wraps up its homestand with a midweek contest against Monmouth, set for 3 p.m. at Bainton Field on Tuesday.
