Baseball Beats Bryant in Series Opener

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers baseball beat Bryant in Friday's series opener by a score of 6-3 at Bainton Field. The Scarlet Knights (7-5) used a season high 15 strikeouts from the combination of Dallin Harrison and Vincent Borghese to defeat the Bulldogs (4-6).
RU used early offense to take control of the game in the opening innings. Chase Krewson doubled in the first inning and was driven in by a Charlie Meglio double to give the Scarlet Knights a 1-0 lead. Tristan Salinas then brought him in on a two-run blast to extend the lead to 3-0.
Ryan Jaros tripled to open the bottom of the second inning and then scored on a wild pitch to make it 4-0. Joey Erace hit a ground rule double and then a Peyton Bonds single drove him in to build the lead to 5-0.
Julius Rosado walked to start the fourth inning, which was followed up by a Joey Erace bunt single. Both runners then advanced on a sacrifice bunt by Peyton Bonds which led to Rosado scoring on a Chase Krewson groundout to make the score 6-2.
Harrison made the start for RU and pitched 4.1 innings, giving up three runs and recording seven strikeouts. After two men reached in the fifth with one out, he was relieved by Borghese.
Borghese locked down the win for the Scarlet Knights, going 4.2 scoreless innings and striking out seven, allowing just one hit on the night. He earned the win to improve to 1-1 on the season.
