2017 (Redshirt Junior at Duke): Named to the ACC Academic Honor Roll ... posted career highs in innings pitched (28.1), appearances (21) and strikeouts (20) ... went 2-1 with a 3.18 ERA ... allowed 10 earned runs over 28.1 innings ... struck out 20 and issued 16 walks ... limited opponents to a .147 batting average ... yielded just two extra base hits in 21 appearances, both doubles ... did not allow a run his first 13.0 innings of the season ... graduated with a degree in sociology.
2016 (Redshirt Sophomore at Duke): Took the mound for 12 relief appearances ... posted a 5.91 ERA over 10.2 innings ... pitched a season-high 2.0 innings on two occasions (Feb. 21 vs. Cal & Feb. 26 vs. Ohio State) ... struck out a season-high three batters twice (Feb. 26 vs. Ohio State & March 5 vs. Toledo) ... played for the Trenton Generals of the Atlantic College Baseball League for the second consecutive summer.
2015 (Redshirt Freshman at Duke): Named to the ACC Academic Honor Roll ... made seven appearances on the mound, all in relief … struck out seven batters in 5.2 innings … pitched a season-high 1.2 innings on two occasions … fanned a season-high three batters Feb. 25 versus N.C. Central … played for the Trenton Generals of the Atlantic College Baseball League over the summer.
2014 (Freshman at Duke): Took the mound in eight games, earning four starts … made collegiate debut Feb. 16 against Binghamton … retired the lone Bearcat batter he faced in that contest … earned his first start in a midweek game March 5 against Liberty … worked a scoreless inning in a no decision versus the Flames … also started games against Quinnipiac, UMES and Davidson … pitched a season-high 4.0 innings against UMES, striking out a season-high five batters … missed the final two months of the season due to injury … finished the season with a 4.72 ERA, totaling 13.1 innings of work while striking out 11 and walking six.
Prior to College: A four-year letterwinner at Toms River North High School ... named Shore Conference Asbury Park Press Player of the Year, first team All-Shore and honorable mention all-state selection as a senior ... posted a 7-2 record and 1.20 ERA in final high school campaign ... named Perfect Game BCS Most-Valuable Pitcher ... went 3-3 with a 3.00 ERA junior season ... registered a 3-2 record and 1.50 ERA as a sophomore ... earned High Honors all four years ... received Academic Pin for having the highest GPA in the baseball program.
Personal: Born Karl Tran Blum on June 16, 1995 in Livingston, N.J. ... son of Karl and Due Blum ... one of five siblings ... has two older brothers (Logan and Jared), one younger brother (Kevin), who is a teammate, and a younger sister (Kiera) ... enrolled in the Global Sports Business graduate program.
