Campbell Sparks Knights to Win

PISCATAWAY, N.J. (Oct. 10, 2014) - Sparked by three hits from sophomore Christian Campbell (Sayreville, N.J.), the Knights took game three of the Rutgers World Series, 4-2, Friday at Bainton Field. The Scarlet now lead the best-of-seven series, 2-1.
"It was a must-win game for the Knights and they played well enough to win today," head coach Joe Litterio said.
Named MVP of the game, Campbell had two singles and a triple to lead an eight-hit attack. The Knights were aided by five errors committed by the Scarlet, scoring two unearned runs. Junior Chris Suseck (Flemington, N.J.) blasted a two-out RBI double in the fifth to set the score at 4-2.
On the mound, sophomore Gaby Rosa (Perth Amboy, N.J.) earned the win with three innings pitched. He allowed a leadoff triple to senior Joe D'Annunzio (Scotch Plains, N.J.) and RBI single to junior John Jennings (Berkeley Heights, N.J.) in the first, but settled down from there to allow the Knights to come back. Sophomore Ryan Fleming (Churchville, Pa.) worked the next three innings to hold the lead and senior Jon Young (Old Bridge, N.J.) struck out two in the final frame to earn the save.
Sophomore Kevin Baxter (Waterford, N.J.) struck out three in two innings for the Scarlet, while junior David Yakopec (Pittsburgh, Pa.) and freshman John O'Reilly (Northvale, N.J.) combined to work the next four frames. D'Annunzio had two hits, two runs and two steals on offense to keep the Scarlet close.
The Knights will look to even the series in game four of the series Saturday at 11 a.m.
