Sophomore Tom Marcinczyk (Middlesex, N.J.) leads Rutgers with a .333 average this season, including hitting 10-for-21 (.476) with five extra base hits during five games on the current road trip. His nine extra base hits overall match the personal total set during 46 games as a rookie last season. Sophomore Mike Carter (Bloomfield, N.J.) led the team with a .355 average in league play in 2014, while junior R.J. Devish (Beachwood, N.J.) followed at an even .300.

On the mound, junior Mark McCoy (Barnegat, N.J.) will bump up in the rotation to start the series opener for the first time. The left-hander has pitched to a 2.08 ERA over his last three games with 10 strikeouts. Junior Howie Brey (Middletown, N.J.) will work game two as he leads the staff with 15 games of starting collegiate experience. Sophomore Gaby Rosa (Perth Amboy, N.J.) will slide back into a starting role for the first time since the opening weekend. The right-hander logged a 2.54 ERA over 49.2 innings in conference play last year to win American Rookie of the Year.

In its last game, RU fell at Ball State, 6-2, after surrendering four runs to break open a tie in the bottom of the eighth. Sophomore Ryan Fleming (Churchville, Pa.) pitched five innings with two runs permitted in his first start of the season. Offensively, senior Vinny Zarrillo (Forked River, N.J.) produced four quality at bats for RU with two walks, a single and a sacrifice fly, while freshman Milo Freeman (Millburn, N.J.) delivered a pair of singles.
