SCOUTING RUTGERS
The Scarlet Knights went 2-3 in five games last week with four of those being away. After splitting a home-and-home midweek series versus Seton Hall, RU took the Friday game at Ohio State, 7-4, behind a complete game by senior Howie Brey (Middletown, N.J.). The left-hander allowed just one run and four hits after the first inning, as the offense put up 13 hits. However, the Buckeyes took the next two games, including a 2-1 Sunday game that came down to the ninth inning. For the season, Rutgers has played 12 games decided by one run.

Junior Christian Campbell (Sayreville, N.J.) is slated to make his first career start on the mound on Tuesday. The right-hander has worked six games in relief this season, including a career-high 3.2 innings pitched last week at Seton Hall. He has 18 strikeouts in 16.2 innings. Then Wednesday, freshman Serafino Brito (Oakland, N.J.) will take the ball for his seventh start as a rookie. He pitched a career-best seven innings in a win last time out versus Seton Hall, allowing one run with five strikeouts and no walks. In 2016, Brito ranks 14th nationally with just 0.96 walks permitted per nine innings, while being 21st with a 7-to-1 strikeout-to-walk ratio.

Out of the bullpen, redshirt junior Max Herrmann (Rutherford, N.J.) worked two scoreless frames Sunday in his team-leading 14th appearance. Also from the left side, junior Ryan Fleming (Churchville, Pa.) has not allowed an earned run in his last seven outings to maintain a 1.20 ERA.

Freshman Jawuan Harris (Pembroke Pines, Fla.) led the bats with a 7-for-17 showing in five games last week, adding four stolen bases. Sophomore Milo Freeman (Millburn, N.J.) also produced with six hits and four RBIs, including his second home run of the season Sunday. Overall, senior R.J. Devish (Beachwood, N.J.) paces the offense with a.379 batting average and a .517 on-base percentage. In addition, fifth-year senior Chris Suseck (Flemington, N.J.) leads the lineup with 27 RBIs.

On the base paths, Harris is first in the Big Ten and ranks seventh in the country with 25 stolen bases in 29 tries. Devish is tied for second in the conference with 17, as the team is at 74 swipes, which is sixth in the nation and 17 more than any other Big Ten team.
