SCOUTING RUTGERS
The Scarlet Knights start their 12th week of action at an even .500 record, including 13-4 at home, and have played the 23rd-toughest schedule in the country. RU has won six of its last seven non-conference games with an 8-0 mark versus non-league opponents at Bainton Field overall.

In recent action, Rutgers split four games last week at home. That started with a 6-4 victory over Villanova that used a three-run rally in the bottom of the eighth to wipe out a deficit. Coming back again Friday in the series opener versus Nebraska, RU overcame a 2-1 deficit in the bottom of the ninth with two outs and no runners on. Freshman Luke Bowerbank (Bernardsville, N.J.) struck a single up the middle and senior R.J. Devish (Beachwood, N.J.) walked on a full count to put two on. Next up, junior Christian Campbell (Sayreville, N.J.) managed to put the ball in play with two strikes with a chopper to third base. The fielder snagged the ball, but wildly threw down the right field line to allow both runners to cross home for the first walk-off win of the season for the Scarlet Knights. However, the Cornhuskers responded by taking both ends of a Saturday doubleheader to claim the series victory.

For the season, Devish continues to lead the Big Ten and ranks No. 8 nationally with a .532 on-base percentage. He also paces the league with 45 runs scored, while being second with 33 walks and 21 stolen bases. He is third with a .375 batting average. In four games last week, both Campbell and junior Tom Marcinczyk (Middlesex, N.J.) had five hits to lead the team, as Marcinczyk is third in the conference with 39 RBIs for the year.

Redshirt junior Kevin Baxter (Waterford, N.J.) is slated to make his 16th career start on Tuesday. He made two starts last season versus Saint Peter's and combined for 9.2 innings with two earned runs allowed. The right-hander most recently appeared out of the bullpen Saturday against Nebraska and worked a scoreless frame.

NOTABLE
RU is fourth in the nation with 95 stolen bases this season, second-most in a year in program history … the offense has reached double-digit hits 16 times and scored 10 or more runs on seven occasions … RU has played 20 games decided by two runs or less … the Scarlet Knights lead the Big Ten with 196 walks drawn and have struck out the third-least times (270).

SCOUTING SAINT PETER'S
A member of the MAAC, the Peacocks are coming off their first series victory of the season, taking 2-of-3 at Marist over the weekend. Jon Kristoffersen leads the offense with a .314 average, five home runs and 18 RBIs, while Rob Moore has also knocked in 18. Steve Epstein is slated to make the Tuesday start. The right-hander took the loss in his last start at Seton Hall with six runs allowed over 3.1 innings. As the team, SPU has a .240 batting average and an 8.11 ERA.

THE SERIES
Rutgers leads the all-time series over Saint Peter's, 20-2, including two wins last season. The second victory ended in extra innings when Devish scored from second on a wild pitch. UP NEXT
