Genuario pitches seven innings in first collegiate start
PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Junior Tommy Genuario pitched seven innings for Rutgers baseball (6-17, 0-2) with only one earned run allowed, but Seth Lonsway tossed a three-hit shutout for Ohio State (16-11, 2-0) in a 2-0 win for the Buckeyes. It was the first game of a Saturday doubleheader at Bainton Field.
The only scoring in the game came in the first inning when Brady Cherry hit a two-run homer following an error.
Genuario (1-1), who pitched 5.2 scoreless innings in relief last Sunday versus Indiana State, earned his first collegiate start and went seven with one earned run permitted. The right-hander picked up 11 outs on the ground and walked only one. Junior Steven Acosta, junior Eric Reardon and senior Serafino Brito all recorded two outs from the bullpen to keep the Scarlet Knights within striking distance.
Lonsway (4-2) struck out 12 in the complete game, giving up three hits and two walks. Rutgers stranded five runners on base.
