Scarlet Knights welcome Virginia transfer
PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers baseball and head coach Steve Owens announce the addition of Evan Sleight to the 2021 roster. A native of Framingham, Massachusetts, and transfer from the University of Virginia, the outfielder is seeking a waiver for immediate eligibility. Sleight was rated the No. 1 high school player in Massachusetts by Perfect Game in 2019.
"We are thrilled that Evan will be joining our program this fall," Owens said. "He checks off many boxes that we were looking for in our recruiting model. He is an advanced left-handed hitter with the ability to handle the bat and hit for extra base power. He has high level athleticism and was a three-sport star in high school. He has been well-coached at every level and has succeeded against top competition. He is a tremendous student with high honor grades and has a likeable personality that people want to be around. For all of these reasons and more, we look forward to his arrival and the opportunity to help him reach his baseball goals. With his skill and motivation, he has a chance to be a big part of our future."

Why Rutgers? "I have heard many great things about the Rutgers program. Growing up in New England, I was familiar with the coaching staff and their successes when they coached at Bryant. Also, I had heard from players on the team that they love what the team stands for and how they compete day in and day out. Aside from baseball, the academics will provide me with what I need to do well in the future."
Notes: Did not see game action as a freshman in 2020 at Virginia due to injury … earned varsity letters in baseball, football and hockey at Belmont Hill … a three-time First Team All-Independent School League selection in baseball … helped BHS win the 2019 Independent School Championship and was named the team's MVP … the No. 1 overall high school player in Massachusetts according to Perfect Game … also rated as the 32nd-best outfielder nationally by Perfect Game … won the Johnny Pesky Teammate Award in 2016 … named to the USA Today All USA Massachusetts Baseball and the Northeast Region All-High School Senior first teams … played travel baseball for the New England Ruffnecks and Sticks Baseball … maintained honors throughout high school including high honors as a senior … recipient of the BHS Merit Award.
Personal: Son of Debra and Peter Sleight … has an older sister, Fiona … intends to major in communication.
