GREENSBORO, N.C. – Rutgers baseball dropped the second game of its series at UNC Greensboro, falling by a score of 8-5 on Saturday afternoon.
Despite the Scarlet Knights (3-6) leading 5-2 in the seventh inning, the Spartans (6-5) scored 6 unanswered runs across the next two frames to secure the game and the series.
RU got out to a 1-0 lead on a
Hugh Pinkney RBI single in the third, but UNCG answered right back in the fourth, scoring on a passed ball and RBI double to take a 2-1 lead.
In the top of the seventh, the Rutgers bats came alive, with
Evan Sleight tying the game with his first home run of the season. The Spartans committed a costly two-out error, allowing
Trevor Cohen to score and give RU a 3-2 lead. Pinkney then drove in his second and third runs of the game on a single to make it 5-2.
UNCG hit a solo home run in the seventh to get back a run, then exploded for 5 in the bottom of the eighth to pull away.
The series finale between Rutgers and UNC Greensboro is set for 1 p.m. on Sunday afternoon.
