PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers baseball dropped the series finale to Bryant by a score of 5-4 on Sunday afternoon at Bainton Field.

The Scarlet Knights (8-6) were unable to complete the sweep of the Bulldogs (5-7), with an unearned run in the seventh being the difference.

Chris Sand started for RU, providing three-plus innings on the mound. One run crossed on a sac bunt in the second and he gave up two more in the fourth before exiting the game, with another scoring after he left.

The Scarlet Knights had runners on base, but were unable to hang a crooked number to jump ahead. A sac fly from Julius Rosado in the second, RBI groundout from Trey Wells in the third, RBI single from Joey Erace in the fourth and sac fly by Ryan Jaros in the fifth represented all four runs on the day for Rutgers.

With the game tied at four apiece in the seventh, the Bulldogs scored on an RBI single after an earlier error put a man on base.

While RU had three batters reach in the late innings on walks, Bryant's pitching held the Scarlet Knights without a hit in the final three frames to lock down the victory and salvage the series.

Joe Mazza contributed 3.1 strong innings for relief, allowing just one unearned run on four hits with four strikeouts and one walk. Zach Gleason finished the game on the mound, giving RU 2.2 scoreless innings with two strikeouts.

Rutgers returns to action with a pair of home midweeks against Wagner and Fordham before opening up Big Ten play at home against Michigan State over the weekend.
