Baseball Picks up Win at Seton Hall

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – Rutgers baseball used a big start on offense to roll to a 12-7 victory at Seton Hall on Tuesday afternoon at Owen T. Carroll Field.
The Scarlet Knights (17-15) scored 10 runs in the first two innings against the Pirates (11-13) the gain the momentum early and cruise to a midweek victory.
True freshman Julius Rosado led the way offensively with five RBIs including a bases-clearing double. Rosado got his day going in the first with a sac fly before driving in three in the second with his bases-loaded double and adding his fifth RBI on a bases-loaded walk in the fifth.
Matt Chatelle also had a big day at the plate, going 2-for-5 with four RBIs and two runs scored.
On the mound, Tyler Kane earned the win for RU thanks to three scoreless innings of relief, allowing just one hit on the day.
Things got going early for the Scarlet Knights when Charlie Meglio tripled in Peyton Bonds with one out in the first. He scored on a wild pitch later to make it 2-0. Chatelle singled in a pair before Rosado's sac fly made it 5-0.
Despite Seton Hall scoring twice in the first, RU answered back with five more in the second. Chatelle had his second two-run single of the day and Rosado's three-run double pushed the advantage to 10-2.
Yomar Carreras hit an RBI single in the third and Rosado drew a bases loaded walk in the fifth to make it 12 runs on the day.
The Pirates were able to add two in the fourth, two in the eighth and one in the ninth, but the big lead generated by the Rutgers lineup was plenty to earn the win.
Rutgers now shifts its attention to this weekend when it will host No. 1 UCLA at Bainton Field for a three-game series.
