Weekly Athletic Communications Report: June 3

THE FIVE THINGS TO KNOW
  1. Rowing placed 11th at the NCAA Championship in Indianapolis this past weekend. The varsity 8 and varsity 4 boats finished 10th, and the second varsity eight boat 14th, in the first NCAA Championship berth for the program in 18 years. (RVision: NCAA recap)
  2. Graduate student Chris Mirabelli (javelin), sophomore Taj Burgess (400m) and freshman Reanda Richards (400m hurdles) will compete at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships, held Wednesday through Saturday in Austin, Texas. (live results)
  3. Rising senior Chantelle Swaby will compete for Jamaica at the 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup June 7-July 7 in France. Swaby is one of three Scarlet Knights on World Cup rosters, joining Team USA's Carli Lloyd and Canada's Shannon Woeller.
  4. A school-record 145 student-athletes were recognized by the Big Ten as Spring 2019 Academic All-Conference to elevate RU's 2018-19 total to a record-setting 276 honorees, after 46 and 85 were selected in the winter and fall, respectively.
  5. Wrestling head coach Scott Goodale was named the 2019 Dan Gable Coach of the Year by WIN Magazine after leading RU to a 9th place NCAA Championships finish in March with two individual national champions.

Rowing
  • Placed 11th at the 2019 NCAA Championship at the Indianapolis Rowing Center at Eagle Creek Park, its best finish in program history (RVision: day oneday twoday three recaps).
 
Men's Track & Field
  • Associate Head Coach Robert Farrell was named the USTFCCCA Mid Atlantic Assistant Coach of the Year.
  • Chris Mirabelli (javelin) and Taj Burgess (400m) will compete at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships. A three-time All-American, Mirabelli will compete on Wednesday (7:45 p.m., ESPN3). A 2018 Second Team All-American, Burgess, will compete in the 400m semifinals on Wednesday (9 p.m., ESPN2).

  • Four game times and two network assignments were announced as the Birthplace of College Football celebrates its 150th anniversary in 2019.
