New Jersey native drafted in 2019 out of St. Augustine Prep
PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers baseball and head coach Steve Owens welcome right-handed pitcher Jayson Hoopes to the 2021 roster. A native of Northfield, New Jersey, Hoopes was drafted by the Chicago Cubs out of St. Augustine Prep in 2019 and spent the 2020 season at the University of Virginia.
"We are excited that Jayson has decided to come home to New Jersey and further his baseball career at Rutgers," Owens said. "He is a power right-handed pitcher who possesses an explosive fastball and a starter-type repertoire of secondary pitches. He will be a valuable addition to our pitching staff and has a proven track record of competing at a high level. We look forward to working with him and helping him develop to enjoy all aspects of his collegiate experience. He has a chance to be a special player for us and we have confidence that he will achieve his goals."
